Tagum City
2011
I like to believe music and youth is a match in heaven. Artist through history, instilled in our consciousness a portrait of heaven dominated by little angels playing harp and making serene music. A celestial scene replicated when I witnessed a recital of young TagumeƱo children playing various strings and brass instruments.
Heaven heavily poured its might that afternoon as if joining in the celebration. The sound of the raindrops falling to the barren ground and the tin roof blended in the noise of the children rehearsing, doting mothers chit chatting, curious bystanders murmuring. The regular chess players of the place continued on playing, keeping their mum.
The recital was the culmination of the musical instrument clinic of the City govenment of Tagum in close cooperation with the National Comission for the Culture and the Arts. About a hundred kids benefited in the program specially those first time users of the plucked instruments.
Impressively, the kids carry on a note. And before they took the final bow, a tight bond of friendship had long been forged.
